Technology

WFNX-LP is a Low Power FM (LPFM) station licensed to Scituate Community Radio, serving Scituate, Marshfield, Norwell, and Hanover from our broadcast site 370 feet above sea level overlooking the North River.

Although we’re a non-commercial station, we operate with professional-grade transmission and studio equipment, delivering high-quality sound and reliable performance.

Our infrastructure includes multiple redundancies to ensure uninterrupted broadcasting, even during extreme conditions. We’re equipped to broadcast remotely from the local Emergency Operations Center (EOC), allowing us to provide real-time updates from emergency management officials. In the event of a power outage, we have a mobile go kit that allows us to transmit directly from the transmitter site. Our 5G connectivity also enables seamless live broadcasts from community events, reinforcing our commitment to staying live and local at all times.

We take audio quality seriously. Our music library is stored on redundant servers, ensuring both ample storage and data protection. All music is stored in uncompressed linear PCM (.wav) format to preserve the highest possible sound fidelity. Our gold tracks are sourced from TM Studios’ GoldDisc library, while new releases come from Promo Only and direct partnerships with record labels. We also feature out-of-print and rare tracks, which we carefully restore and remaster in-house from vinyl or original CDs. WFNX-LP maintains full compliance with music rights standards through licensing agreements with all applicable Performance Rights Organizations (PROs).

Our studio is outfitted with Angry Audio and StudioHub components, ensuring smooth signal flow from the console to the web stream processor. Every part of our broadcast chain is designed for clear, consistent, and professional-grade audio delivery.

We also utilize RadioDNS, a hybrid radio technology that enhances our FM signal with IP-based metadata and interactive content. Compatible devices can display our station logo, real-time song and artist metadata, and even live emergency alerts—offering listeners a more engaging and informative experience.

At 101.3 The Coast, technology isn’t just about equipment—it’s about delivering world-class rock and vital local information with clarity and reliability.
